The Illinois Department of Transportation is having a meeting on
Tuesday, December 19, between 4 and 6 PM at the Beecher High School,
538 Miller Street. The meeting concerns the new runway plan devised
by Jesse' Jackson's ALNAC group, which is 3000 feet further south of
IDOT's plan (on Eagle Lake Road), which means planes would be landing
and taking off over Beecher and Peotone.
People will be able
to make comments and will probably be instructed to keep comments to
the two runways. Ignore them and say anything you want. You might
want to write out a brief statement to read into the record if you
are concerned you might not remember what you want to say.
Also, you will
have 15 days to submit written comments (we will publish an address
to mail to when that information is known). Contact IDOT Program
manager Peter Quattrocchi (708) 258-6783 for further
information.
We need to inform
IDOT that we oppose both runway layouts since the airport should not
be built in the first place.
Possible talking points:
-
I do not want
either site, both are unneeded.
-
Both site are
harmful and would destroy prime farmland and create urban sprawl.
-
The ALNAC site
would be a pollution and noise disaster for Beecher.
-
Does IDOT want to
be responsible for building another white elephant, like Mid-America
airport downstate Mascoutah?
-
The proposed 3rd
regional airport for northeastern Illinois already exists: it's in
Gary, and cannot keep airlines since there is a lack of demand.
-
IDOT should
investigate Hanson's Professional services for criminal activity
concerning trespassing, the houses they were supposed to be renting and
maintaining. What ever happened to the sub-pumps to keep water out of
the basements so they could be rented? Hanson’s pulled them out along
with other valuable items.
-
IDOT should fire
Hanson's.
-
This project is
politically driven and not market driven and is bound to fail.
-
IDOT is putting
the cart before the horse in purchasing land before an airport is
approved.
-
The FAA warned
IDOT that they were buying land at their own risk since the project is
not approved.
